Tips for the Best Fourth of July Picnic Ever

July 3, 2012 by Scott Moize Jr.

4th of July PicnicThe Fourth of July, otherwise known as Independence Day, is the federal holiday in the USA which celebrates the Declaration of Independence.

On July 4th, 1776 this was the document which declared America as independent from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Traditionally Independence Day is commemorates with fireworks, parades, carnivals, outdoor concerts, ceremonies and of course, family picnics.

If you are planning a picnic for this Independence Day, here are some tips for making it the best outdoor feast ever!

Keep Your Food Fresh and Safe

One of the challenges of outdoor eating is keeping your food from spoiling in the warm July sunshine. It is very important to keep your snacks cool so that they don’t breed bacteria and make you ill.

Stock up on ice packs and keep them in the freezer for a few days before.

Save a little room in your cooler and pack the ice packs all around the food. When you get there, eat the fresh perishable foods first so that they will not be sitting in the sun for several hours.

Have Fun with Red, White and Blue

What is an Independence Day celebration without a little patriotic color?

There are many ways that you can incorporate the stars and stripes into your picnic, from blue and white napkins to specially decorated cupcakes.

How about a fruity flag platter made with blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream?

Make Cleanup Easy

Think ahead before your picnic and you will make cleaning up much easier, even if your children are messy eaters.

Take separate plastic bags which you can use to collect all of the wrappers and other trash to easily dispose of.

Bring with you some baby wipes so that everyone can clean their hands and faces even if you are far away from a bathroom.

Pack all of the snacks in reseal-able sandwich bags so that you can zip them back up and put them away neatly.

A fun family picnic on a warm summer’s day is the ideal way to celebrate the Fourth of July, so sit back in the sunshine and enjoy this patriotic holiday with those you love!
